From the broiler to the cooler
June 24, 2021 we went from the broiler to the cooler and I’m loving it.
June 17, 2021 we pulled out of the Joe T Fallini CG, located just north of Mackay ID, around 9:00 for the 113 mile drive to the town of Pocatello ID, thanks to Amazon we spent 3 nights here instead of the 2 as we planned to. It was time for Mary to have some blood work done, we had intended to have it done while we were in Wendell ID, which is near Twin Falls, that’s a bigger town than Pocatello, but they didn’t have a Lab Corp. there. ugh.
Anyway, besides the blood work the printer was acting up, it needed something called a Maintenance Box. It’s just a scrap ink storage device, for ink after you clean the front heads and stuff, it was apparently full and refused to print anything until it was replaced. We looked for one in Twin Falls but it’s not something the stores stock.
A first for us, we ordered the part from Amazon and used an Amazon locker, it’s where you can have stuff delivered to a locker outside a business, Amazon sends you a code after your package is delivered, you key in the code and one of the doors opens with your package inside. It worked like a charm AFTER we called the help line. When we got to the locker the screen was blank. We tried a few different things before finally making the call. Remotely, they restarted the thing and it worked. Only thing was we had to stand out in the BLINDING HOT sun and stay on the line while it was being reset, it only took a few minutes but I was getting toasty before we retrieved our package.
About the extra day we had to stay, to start with they said the package would not be delivered till Wednesday the 23, meaning we needed to stay 3 nights ( in the HEAT!!!) but then they delivered the package fairly early on Tuesday June 22. GRRRRRR. On Tuesday it was 97 degrees, not as bad on Wednesday but still way to hot for me.
The printer is up and running so that’s off of my to do list.
Since we had a down day on Wednesday we started the day at the Idaho Potato Museum in the town of Blackfoot, about 20 miles up the expressway. It was interesting to see how planting and harvesting taters has changed over the years.

Then we made a stop at the Fort Hall Museum, it’s in Pocatello, again it was interesting and they are just setting up a pioneer town.

June 24, 2021, today we managed to get out of the broiler, at least that’s what the last few days have felt like, today we made it to the cooler. WOW, it’s amazing what 200 miles and some elevation gain can do. We were at 4420 elevation and now we’re at 7376 elevation.
I ALMOST broke out a long sleeve shirt after we got here. While at Mackay and Pocatello we put the reflectix’s stuff in the windows while we were broiling, we just left it in for a little insulation from the cool weather at night we expect here 45* and it feel great!!! A low of 45 is expected for tonight with a high of 66 tomorrow along with clouds and scattered showers in the forecast. It’s GREAT!!! No fear of running out of ice for all the ice water I was drinking.
We actually stayed here last year on our return from Glaicer NP. No electric and water faucets are scattered around. As long as the sun shines the battery is happy and will recharge from what ever power we use once the sun goes down. And at $5 a night it’s hard to beat.
A few pics from the drive and after we arrived.
We’ve paid for 2 nights but may stay longer, it’s a first come first serve, there were only 2 of 16 spots open at 11:45 when we arrived today, by the time we were set up the other open spot was taken. I don’t think anyone else left, if they did they were immediately replaced. We’ve had several people driving through looking for a spot.
