This drunk guy
June 18 2021 evening.
On the way home from Craters of the Moon we made a quick stop to pick up some information for tomorrows outing.
As we were leaving, we were stoped at a stop sign, this guy and girl were standing on the corner drinking a beer, he was pretty far gone, he hollers at us asking if we were going to the rodeo? Eventually we found out he was looking for a ride to the rodeo, she waved us on.
Rodeo? Wonder what that was about? They were both dressed in more traditional western garb. Low and behold when we turned in to the CG there was a small poster advertising the rodeo, starting at 6:30 this evening.
After debating with myself about setting in the hot sun for a few hours we decided to go. A rodeo is something I’v been wanting to do since we retired but never found one at a time and place we could go to.
When we arrived home from Craters of the Moon we had put the windshield sun thing in, getting ready to go to the rodeo it was, again, almost to hot to handle.
It was a local rodeo that had been going on for 75 years. It was pretty interesting with one injury being taken away in an ambulance. He gave a thumbs up as he was being loaded in the ambulance attached to a back board. Hopefully he’s ok.
One of the events was called a kids calf scramble, imaging 2 calves with streamers taped to them, the goal was for the kids chase the claves and grab a streamer.
2 calves at one end of the arena, a hord of kids at the other end. Then go. As the kids started to surround the claves, this is where things didn’t go as planned, the claves soon realized that someone didn’t close the gate so they retreated back to where they came from, followed by a bunch of kids. It kinda ended there because it’s dangerous with all the other animals back there.
Mary liked the wild cow milking, yup rope a cow, control her enough to squirt some milk.
Personally I thought the 2 young girls (15 & 16?) doing the trick riding was good, you could really tell they grew up riding and showed no fear. Hanging upside down almost dragging your head on the ground while the horse is running full tilt took some courage.
