UGH it sure is HOT!!!!
June 15 2021
HOT is the understatement of the year and I sure do dislike hot weather any more!! We moved from Clyde Holliday State Park, the misquote infested park, about 134 miles, to a small county park, Cow Hollow, that we hoped had a spot, they did for 1 night and 1 night only, the other places we called were all full!!!
Along the way we crossed some mountain passes, and long stretch of nothing, one sign read next gas, 66 miles, we passed a couple of almost wide spots in the road but that was all.
Once we arrived here we called a couple of places trying to find a space for 2 nights, surprisingly, the one we expected to be full had a spot for 2 nights.
So after we arrived, and found a place to stay, we’re in the direct sun and the outside temperature was around 94 degrees we decided to go for a drive. Down the road about 9 miles is, Snively Hot Springs, a natural hot spring in the Owyhee River. We considered putting on our swim suits, before we left, but decided that it was to HOT to sit in a hot spring and that shallow river would probably be more comfortable but we pass that idea, there were several people there anyway but it was a very pretty drive. At one time when I checked the temperature from the jeep it was 100.
We passed massive carefully irrigated fields, of onions, probably sweet corn, potatoes, wheat, getting special treatment for some reason, sugar beets(?), and a couple of others that we couldn’t identify without stopping and getting out.
We turned around at the Owyhee Lake, on the drive, along the river, most of the small pull offs had fisherman at them, since a large portion of the river was on BLM land there were also several camping spots.
We also noticed many of the vehicles had these things suctioned cupped to their hood and one on the roof. Eventually we found one in use, they are to hold the long 1 piece fly rods while your driving.
The lake is in a valley with steep sides, I believe most of the water is siphoned off in a large canal, anyway, since there is no room for a spillway, as we know it, it looks like the spillway is a large concrete hole.
We took this one small offshoot road exploring, it ended up following the canal from the lake, then all of a sudden ended, well, not ended, it suddenly drops into this enclosed concrete chute. On the other side of the ravine appears to be the same kind of set up. I don’t know where the water goes but down the road a little further were 2 large pipes one goes down one going up, to me it looked like 1 was smaller than the other so many they are using gravity to move the water from one hill to the other.
More garbage below.

This morning we crossed the Snake River into Idaho to finish the 164 mile drive. Right after we crossed the river there was a nice big gas station, most of the ones in Oregon were extra small and tight, not only that, but I could pump my own gas. I don’t mind handing someone my card and letting them run it at the pump and handing it right back, before they start pumping gas, but good help is apparently hard to find. At this one gas station a few days ago, the gas cap on the motorhome, is at the rear of the coach, I’m lined up correctly, I hand this spacy little girl my card and she walks to the pump in front of us and starts to put the card in that pump. I was NOT impressed with Oregon gas stations in the least!
We past many more acres of all most manicured fields today, some with large wheeled sprayers others with each row being watered by a short hose into the valley between the rows.
Once we got settled in we headed to the grocery store, along the way we stopped at a city park called Shoshone Falls, its on the outskirts of Twin Falls Idaho.
The Grocery store we went to, Fred Myers, owned by Kroger, is WAY to big, selling everything under the sun, except for maybe lumber. At least this time, this was the second one we shopped at, we knew to go in the correct doors, the first time we pushed our bought and paid for groceries through 1/2 the store in search of the doors we entered through. It was rediclous!
I don’t know if it’s the unwelcome heat that’s making me fuss about stuff.
Finally the END!
