Oregon or bust
5/31/2021
Just like the wagon trains of yester year, when they would write Oregon or bust, Oregon was one of my destinations, well, actually we’re already in Oregon.
From Morton WA we backtracked to Highway 101 which is a costal highway that is supose to have lots of scenery along the way, as we are now headed south. Its the same road we took as we traveled around Mount Olympus in Washington.
Backtracking, the traffic wasn’t tooooo bad, as we traveled a small 2 lane road for several miles, once we reached the 101 and crossed the Columbia River, we could see Mt Rainier’s(?) snowcapped peak off in the distance. The Bridge is very long with one end rising high above the water for big ships to pass under and then we entered Oregon. About 1/2 way across the bridge, traffic was backed up for a mile or more, there is a stoplight as you exit the bridge and being is was Memorial Day the traffic was pretty heavy. Once off the bridge we negotiated our way to Fort Stevenson State Park which included traveling another rather long bridge, this one was a draw bridge.
There was a big ole line of campers leaving the park. We secured a spot and are backed in. We went for a short drive here in the park, they have a lot of long walking trails, I don’t think we will be walking on them with so much to do in the area.
