Where I come from

We’re staying kinda between Mt Rainier to the North and Mount St Helens to the South, in this a small town called Morton. We decided to stay 5 nights because they had a spot open over Memorial Weekend.

Yesterday we went south and found blocked roads by snow. Today we headed north to Mt Rainier and to my knowledge the only road partially open in the entire park.

First up driving along a Forest Service Road was a sign, I’m sure put there by Bigfoot, saying lookout this way. Slamming on the breaks sliding sideways as I cut the wheel, just like Bigfoot knew I would. After about 8 miles of bouncing along this road we finally stopped at Bigfoot’s trap, again I turned around. Bigfoot snow traps, 3 set 1 worked – 2 more failed attempts. Sorry Big Guy.

Then it was onward and upward to Paradise which just happens to be up around 5400 ft. The roads beyond were closed.

Where I come from Memorial Weekend it the start of summer, not checking to see if mountain passes have been plowed. UGH, we’re obviously to early in the season, but it’s busy now, I can’t imagine what it’s like with all the roads open,

With no experience with mountain road passes and snow I never dreamed the roads would STILL be closed because of SNOW on Memorial Weekend. Oh yea, it started snowing while we were in Paradise.

With the rain/snow clouds and fog we have yet to see Mt Rainier or Mount St Helens, I think they are predicting sunshine for tomorrow, I hope so!!
