The Misquote Gauntlet
But first I don’t think the new notifications are working so there is 1 new story below this one.
6/28/2018
We went for a hike today, overall it turned out to be about 3 & 3/4 miles. That’s 3 & 3/4 miles of mostly misquote infested trail……..We were on a cross country ski trail, the first 1/2 was listed as easy, the second half was listed as hard….. that’s hard cross country skiing.
After we got into the woods about 1/4 miles the skitters became a real nuisance! At one point we discussed turning around but decided against it………. Big mistake, the further along the trail we got the worse the skeeters got. On our return, the hard part, it should have been an easy walk, like the first 1/2 except with a few minor hills to go up and down.
Well let me tell you it would have been an easy and enjoyable walk, except you could not stop. Even walking and constantly swatting at the #$%%$#$ things you were still eaten alive, stop and it was madding. Throw in some minor hills and that really gets the ole heart rate and breathing up.
Oh, and on a side note, I should also mention here that the blasted little blood suckers don’t taste very good either.
A. it was not an enjoyable walk because of the skeeters, B. The trail, both ways, was through the woods, nothing to see except for trees, Had the skeeters not been so bad we might have take a side trail to a lake but all we could think of is getting out of the woods.
Did I mention that it was pretty warm and humid that day, we were both sweat soaked by the time we got back to the Jeep. It’s a good thing that we were both able to keep up the pace, it could have really been bad it we couldn’t.
Our Osprey backpacks with the Water bladders came in handy, we could take a drink while walking, while if we had taken water bottles, we wold have had to stop every time we needed a drink, and because of our rapid pace through the gauntlet of bloodsuckers we needed quite a bit of water.
Lessons learned, triple up on the bug spray before you leave and if you question if should turn back……. Turn back.
Only a couple of pictures, nothing to see and you could not stop to take any pictures anyway.
