Farmland and a surprise at the end of the day
12/14/2021
We drove about 163 miles today, I hadn’t really planned to drive that far but the route was through mostly rural areas with nothing but large rolling wheat and something with yellow flowers fields.
We fly by the seat of our pants as far as planning and reservations are concerned. North of our route were several State Parks and some National Forest Campgrounds along the Columbia River, since it was Friday, they were all full, it could be a challenging summer for us trying to find places to stay especially on the weekends.
So anyway, we ended up in a county park at the dam of Banks Lake, in a small town called Coulee City. There are several state parks in the area, so we’re staying here for 3 nights.
Once we rested up and ate a bite we headed downstream to the closest State Park, Dry Falls/Sun Lakes SP. As I hinted we don’t do a lot of research on an area. As we were entering the valley we could see the vertical walls of the desert looking valley, but I was really really surprised once we crossed the damm and looked out on this very large Grand Canyon looking deep valley below the dam, with several lakes on the canyon floor.
Washington State parks require an entrance fee of $10 per visit or for $30 you can get an annual pass. They had this self service kiosk that took plastic and spit out an annual pass.
On the valley floor are all of these garden shed to small house sized crumbley looking boulders, Mary said they reminder her of Dino dung, must have been some super sized Dino, that’s all I’ve got to say.
The end
