STUCK!!!

Remember in my last post I kinda eludedd to an adventure today? Well, we almost got more than we bargained for.

It seems as if crafty ole Bigfoot knew I was coming for him so he laid a sneaky ole trap. He knows that I couldn’t resist driving up a mountain side to a look out tower (fire tower). So, what do you think that big guy done went and done? He went and dug a ditch in the roadway then covered it with dirty snow, then as if that wasn’t sneaky enough the faked some old looking tire tracks through the snow.

First off he put his trap way up the mountain, like over 6 miles from pavement, we pull up to this batch of snow looks to be about 2-3 times the length of the jeep, we make it most of the way through bounce in a hidden ditch and all forward motion stops, fortunately I was able to back up a few inches and plow on forward on through the snow. Just beyond the snow the road looks to be blocked. So I very carefully get turned around, now its time to tackle Bigfoot’s snowy trap again.

Off we go, I picked a different track this time hoping to avoid the ditch. No such luck, STUCK all 4 tires spinning backwards and forward.

PLAN A, there are 26 charters in the alphabet, so I figure I have at least 26 tries. On the first attempt I dug the snow our from all 4 tires below the level of the tires, were numerous( hemlock?) pine tree looking branches laying around. We stuffed them up under the tires as tight as we could. No luck, no movement, plan A.5. I dug some snow out from under the frame. Still no luck so it was time for plan B. I carry a come-a-long ( it has a strap instead of a steel cable) and some tow straps. Dug those out of the jeep, tied off to a tree and started taking up the slack, here is where the only cussing came in. I was standing on a bank and as I was  tightening up the straps with the come-a-long when one of my shoe strings started winding up with the strap. That took some doing to get undone while I’m trying not to fall off the bank.

With Mary working the come-a-long it wasn’t long before the jeep gained traction and was out of the snow. I knew all along that Bigfoot’s plan would fail, the snow was melting fast, as a back up plan I could have dug out more snow from underneath the jeep, I just have been wet and cold from head to toe and it was still early in the day

Once off the mountain we were off in search of he original plan a wafer fall. We made our way to the water falls. The write up said there were 2 water falls in the same area. We only went to the one because the walking trail to the other falls was snow covered and kinda slick.
