Del Rio TX
1/2o/2021
After a drive of 218 Miles yesterday we landed at Buzzards Roost Campground, is a smaller older CG that sits just on the northern outskirts of Del Rio TX should be renamed Ferrel Cat Campground, there are WAY to many cats running around here.
The cats have all learned that when a car pulls in and shuts off the motor the hood is nice and warm so they tend to congregate around the warmest vehicle.
I don’t feel physical un-safe here but I have concerns with stuff walking off. There are also a lot of workers living here and they all need to leave early, so we make sure everything is kept locked.
This morning in a cool damp mist we set out in search of a lab so Mary could get some blood work done. First stop was the local hospital, they wouldn’t do the blood draw and do the lab work because it was not ordered by a Texas Dr.. More stops and calls all directed us to the hospital, it looks like we’re going to need to move on down the road and hopefully find a lab (Lab Corp) that will do the over due blood work.
After the runaround of trying to get the blood work done, the next stop was Wally World. WOW, now, that was one super expensive stop, the most we have EVER spent on food and supplies at one time. Since Presidio was a small town, Subway was the only chain restaurant in town, and things were more expensive and we were there a month, we were low and out of a lot of stuff.
Later in the day the rain stopped so we took a short drive to Walk Lake which is part of the Amistad National Recreation Area. Which, is about 1/2 in Mexico and is located at the conflux of the Rio Grande, the Devils River and the Pecos River Per the write up.
The lake, like most lakes in the west, looks to be way down, at times according to the GPS we were driving under water. The lake is far from what I consider to be a pretty lake, all rocky shores and only scrub brush as far as the eye can see. However looking at the map it looks like it’s an interesting lake with lots of coves and inlets.
