Our month’s stay is up
1/18/2021
Our month stay was up today so it was time to head on down the road, we had a good time here at Loma Poloma RV park, actually it was hard to leave, everyone was super friendly, and while we were there they/we ate GOOD, we had pitch in several times like BBQ Chicken, Smoked Turkey, Smoked Brisket, Tortilla Soup. I’ll admit I was a little apprehensive about joining in the meals but. A) Presidio County has one of the lowest Covid problems in the nation, it helps that no body lives in the county. B) we ate outside. C) Mask were required while inline getting your food then everyone mostly sat apart. D) Most of the group were retired or working from home and pretty much only ventured out for groceries. The largest gathering, Christmas, we had 24 people, most were around 15-18.
Mary out did herself at these pitch-ins by whipping up some really delicious side dishes like Persimmon Pudding, Corn Bread, no bake cookies, Macaroni & Cheese, 2 separate batches of Rice Krispy Treats.
The New Years fireworks were postponed until Friday, January the 8th because of the snow & cold over New Years.
Lots of times they went as a group shopping over in Ojinaga Mexico, it’s just across the Rio Grande from Presidio. It’s a LITTLE larger town than Presidio as I understand it and I guess the prices are a little more reasonable. One guy kept talking about how much better the Mexican Coke is over US Coke so I had them bring a few back when they went shopping—– Neither one of us tasted any real difference.
From what we understand it should have been much warmer than it was, last year a couple of them were out in shorts and flip flops.
When it aint getting light until around 8:00am and it’s 32° it’s hard to leave early, we pulled out around 9:30 for about a 60 mile drive with Mary following me in the jeep. You see it’s a long pull from Presidio @ 2571ft up to Marfa @4964ft, a few places in between we were over 5000 ft. More than once poor RUBY downshifted a couple of gears, I really don’t want to think what it would have been with towing the jeep.
Leaving town the road starts with a LONG slight up hill grade and 55 was as fast as I could get to – that was without the jeep. After that there were a few short but pretty steep grades. I’m glad it has some long straight stretches between the hills for people to pass or the passing lanes going up the hills. I think I was only passed 6-7 times + 1 semi that shouldn’t have passed when he did. Highway 67 is a nice wide lightly traveled road.
We rolled into Marfa Lights rest area around 11:00, we’re going to spend the night here. We had talked of going on down the road a few miles but that CG was full and another one past that one never returned my calls, beyond them it’s a long drive to the next place to stay.
We spent 1 night here with the white coach, the only problem this time is it’s going to get down to around 30° tonight.
Oh, and not a cloud in the sky at 3:00pm but it may be raining in the morning, I just love driving in the rain.

Well, it didn’t rain last night but the wind sure blew and blew and blew. I got up about 6:30 this morning, I couldn’t sleep with the wind howling.
We pulled out at 8:00, these guys came in after we parked, this is only about half of them, others were parked around.
