Pinto Canyon Road

Day 2 of will the Jeep have an issue and strand us while we’re in the middle of nowhere. This morning we took FM170 north this time to the town of Ruidosa, it’s about 42 miles from home, it’s not really a town and it’s not in the GPS. From there we hung a right on Pinto Canyon Road, it’s a gravel road with a sign that says steep grades & narrow roads next 54 miles. WOW what a road, we met 1 truck, found 1 pry bar for digging out rocks, I moved it out of the road, met 1 side by side, I’m pretty sure he was working, passed 1 road grader working on the road, 1 truck with him and a couple of bicyclist once we reached pavement as we neared Marfa. The gravel portion was only about 20-25 miles then it turned into Texas Ranch Road 2810.

About 10 miles of the gravel county road took us through the 62,000 acre Pinto Canyon Ranch, it has some spatular scenery. Words and pictures just can’t do justice to the area. They can’t even come close. The downside was no trespassing beyond the road while in the ranch so there are no hiking trails.

What a drive, we hope to do the same route only in reverse next time, total trip from Presidio to Ruidosa to Marfa and back to Presidio was about 150 miles.
