We’ve escaped
After sitting WAY to long in the HHH&H (HORRIBLY hot, hazy and humid ) weather of So. IN. we have finally escaped. While not yet as far north as we’re headed, 6/6/2018 finds us just south of Rockford IL in Blackhawk Valley CG.
We scored a sweet spot here next to a nice shade tree. The spots are larger AND we have grass PLUS a fire ring. Over the phone we reserved 2 nights, I needed a brake from driving 2 days in a row, around 400 miles of over the 2 days.
We liked the spot and in looking at the weather, rain in the forecast for our planned departure date, we decided to extend our stay for 5 nights total, turns out we were sitting in the only spot not reserved for the weekend. This CG is full of mostly seasonal campers, they only have a handful of transient spots for people like us.
There is a small river in the area, the Kishwaukee, with several small parks and some nice walking trails that we didn’t get to explore much of.
We also toured The Midway Village and Museum, it was interesting, and you need to be with a guide to enter any of the buildings.
I don’t know what the weekend will be like but for now this is a nice spot, I’m sitting here in the shade typing this & fixing sausages, green peppers and onions.

Yeah, that one is pretty but we would liked to have had the back one for the cabin.
