2 weeks at Pickensville Campground
Note: Somehow the subscribe thingy disappeared, it’s back now. Works or not that’s another story.
After 8 nights at Dewayne Hayes it was time to move on down the way. We moved about 26 air miles from the last spot, the planes can still be heard sometimes but nothing like at Dewayne Hayes.
I wanted to stay along the Tennessee – Tombigbee (Tenn-Tom) waterway to watch the barges and some of the live aboard boats heading south, its kinda late in the season for most of them but just by chance we were at the locks and when the gate opened – and out popped not 1 not 2 not 3 but 4 boats/cruises heading south.
We’re backed up to the Tenn-Tom again only this time we picked out the site in person before we booked it. We have a good view of the waterway and can watch the boats go by close enough to see the people on board and wave to them. Over all not nearly as much boat traffic as I had hoped.
Soapbox Time
I don’t mind dogs in the campground as long as owners pick up after them, the thing that really gets under my skin are barking dogs, the owners’s need to take responsibility and teach the little doggie some manners or leave the yapping things at home! Nobody in the campground wants to listen to yapping dogs every time a leaf falls from a tree!!!
FYI: can’t leave yappy at home they make this thing called a muzzle!!!
Soapbox over………. maybe
Moving on, I CAN NOT get over the number of people who brought leaf blowers from home, at least once a day they are out blowing the 2-3 leaves around that happen to land on their site. The campground host do a good job of cleaning the sites before you arrive, so why bring yours from home?
Here’s yet another brilliant idea from the great one (ME:)
As someone who is retired and likes the solitude of empty campgrounds I think from here on out ALL weekends and holidays should be canceled. This way the CG’s will be much less crowded:) I only say this because durning the month of October and first part of November the State and National Campgrounds can be booked solid, making it hard to find a place to stay.
From our site we watched a barge heading downstream s0 we jumped in the jeep to get some pictures of it exiting the lock, once the gates FINALLY opened. I was going to make a video, we waited and waited, eventually, ever so slowly, the barge started creeping out. I swear grass grows faster than this thing was moving, so I didn’t mess with recording anything.
Once we could get a good look, it kinda obvious reason for the slow exit, it looked to be an extremely tight fit. While I’m sure it was more than this, from our prospective, it looked as if the barge only had a foot or so on each side, again it was a very tight fit.
I’m still way to close to Allergyiana! Allergies are still acting up some.

So it is Thanksgiving day, I’m sitting out by the fire, the Tenn-Tom is like glass and then along comes a boat pulling a water skier, kinda looked like a fun thing to do on Thanksgiving Day.
On a side note, some of the hunters down here should probably do some target shooting. Couple of mornings at just daylight we’ve heard 10-20 shots in a row – BANG,BANG,BANG,BANG.

I think I’ve been magically and against my will transplanted to the frozen north. It’s going to be down to the mid to low 20’s for the next 2 nights. BURRRRRR.
We didn’t do much during our week here, there are no hills to climb or trails near by so we just stayed home and chilled out and watched the boats as they came up and down the waterway.
The End
