The land of snow and ice – BURRRRRRR
9/9/2020
It OLNY got down to 21 last night, not the 17 as predicted.
We moved about 194 miles today. This morning when I got up and looked at the map, it showed I-80 closed and not going to open up until midnight tonight. So we decided to move around 90 miles this would put us closer to I-80 so when it opened we could jump on it and go. Anyway, as we got closer to the expressway and the campground we looked at the map again it showed the expressway open so we decided to move on further down the road.
We pulled out around 9:15 this morning. About 30 miles down the road we started seeing snow. But just a mile or so from the campground we saw a moose, Mary didn’t have a chance to get a picture and he was about to enter the woods but it was exciting getting to seen even if it was just a glimpse.
Once we got on the expressway heading east you could feel the wind pushing us sideways.
AND then AND then came the road construction. Up to now the roads were dry, but for the construction they had us driving on the other side of the expressway with the cones separating us from the oncoming traffic, well when they plowed the road they couldn’t plow the spaces between the cones. Take melting snow and a few miles of semis throwing wet snow and water at us makes for a nice relaxing (NOT) drive, I was sure glad to reach the end of that construction zone.
What do you get when you close an expressway for a few hours or days, I’m not sure how long it was shut down, do to the weather, and open it up and funnel all that traffic into 1 lane due to construction. You get a back up miles and miles long, sure glad it was westbound and not eastbound like we were heading.
Somehow we crossed the continental divide twice on I-80, not sure how we did that.
We rolled in to this campground about 1:30 and it just started spitting SNOW and kept it up all afternoon.
