Burrrrr
9/6/2020
I guess we weren’t the only ones with out reservations, I’m pretty sure that by dark last night, all 16 sites were occupied, there were 8-10 available when we pulled in at 10:30am.
I put the reflex stuff in the windows when we got here because the sun was shining bright on the drivers side and that really heats up the inside. I left it in over night and I’m glad I did because it got down to 37 degrees last night. Burrrrrrrrr.
Where Cabela’s was lit up like high noon, no lights here and the windows blocked off, it was pretty dark and with the extra cool temperatures it was good sleeping all snuggled in the blankets. That is until one needed to get out of bed that you really noticed the coolness:)
Tonight we’ll be sure all the windows and roof vents are closed, lesson learned.
Yesterday after deciding to stay the extra night we thought we would back track and go to the Grand Teton National Park.
For some strange reason Mary was bright eyed and bushy tailed this morning. By 7:15 she’s packing lunch and asking me if I’m ready to go. This had me scratching my head a bit because anytime I mentioning going some place before we eat breakfast she’s like are we gong to have breakfast first? 7:30 and we’re firing up the jeep. I needed to get some gas so we decided to grab a breakfast sandwich, pretty much a waste of money. Note to self, don’t buy gas station sandwiches EVER again.
Knowing what I know now I wish we had just stayed home today. Both in Glaicer and here the smoke makes the mountains look hazy. We get to the park, Mary flashes her top secret Senior, get in free ($35 for a 7 day entry fee), card and off we go heading north. Most of the pull offs are on the left side so we decided to explore things to the right, once we turn around and head south the pull offs would be on the right, that way we’re not crossing traffic All the time. We drive a long ways, at this point we have driven right at 100 miles, have a picnic lunch and start back south. Well the smoke settled in a big way.
Now from any distance the mountains that looked hazy a couple of hours earlier, they now look like ghost and you sometimes think your eyes are playing tricks on you for they are so faint unless your pretty close. The park really filled up to, long weekend I know, but cars and people everywhere, parked long distances along the roads at the popular stops like trails or at a marina. The pull offs for the views are not very busy, but that’s because you couldn’t see the mountains very good. We stopped looking for places to stop and just headed back home. At this one crowded parking spot at the exit, there was this truck, crossways of the road with the front wheels kinda in the ditch and the back end sticking out almost 1/2 way across the road. I guess the park service didn’t like him doing that, they put a boot on his truck. I don’t think he’ll be happy when he returns.
Pictures, what few there are, of our drive, including the drive through Jackson.
Well Rex, you’ve really done it this time. Just a couple of days ago we were trying to escape the heat, remember me writing about that, well out of the frying pan and into the deep freezer, now everywhere I look, the temps are well below freezing at night and a couple of places are below freezing during the day. BURRRRRRR…
They have posted winter storm watches and warnings around everywhere I’v looked and to go along with that there are high wind warnings in places. The plan now is to move to Rock Springs tomorrow, into a RV park with electricity.
I told Mary to be sure to bring a couple of sweatshirts, little did I know we should have packed the winter coats for September.
