What to do – What to do
A long and booooring read.
9/7/2020
37 degrees again last night and for the next few days the nights are going to be considerably colder – as in well below freezing.
It’s hard to believe that just a couple of days ago I was worried about baking, literally, now I’m worried about freezing my AXX off.
Studying the weather this morning has us in a quandary. Looking at the weather for the surrounding area, this area looks the most accommodating. I mean not only cold but strong winds and SNOW!!! Now don’t get me wrong I like the snow, we just didn’t come prepared for this cold of weather. I mean down into the mid to low teens at night is a might cool for this early in the year.
The furnace works well and puts out plenty of heat, our concern with the hard freezes are something on the outside freezing up. While we’re in the middle of no where with no big stores around, I doubt that very many stores have started stocking RV antifreeze yet.
Rawlings WI, 228 miles away, is one on the places I looked at they are calling for not only the cold and 5” of snow but they have high wind/driving warnings out.
Fortunately it looks like this cold snap is only going to last 2-3 days.
With the extra week we stayed near Glaicer and now this delay we need to rethink our roughed out plans because we need to be back in IN at the end of the month. I guess that’s the reason we write our plans in un jelled jello.
It’s about 3:00 in the afternoon when I’m typing this and below. Well, we moved about 32 miles further south arrived here about 12:30, we are in a full hookup site for 2 nights. The wind moved in about 12:30-1:00 right now it’s nice and warm but they are predicting rain to start around 7:00 and changing over to SNOW (1 inch) around 10:00 or so, we’ll see. Along about dark or whenever it starts raining, I need to go unhook the fresh water hose.
Oh and I did find some RV antifreeze in the mostly maskless town of Pinedale WY, 91 miles to there nearest Walmart.
Tonight it’s going to get down to 28 with a high of 44 and tomorrow night down to 19. The further south you look the colder the temperatures are. Colorado Springs has a high of 90 today and high of 39 tomorrow.
We’re in the Wind River View RV park, Because of the direction the wind is blowing we choose not to get a site over looking the valley, we would have needed to really hang on to the door every time you opened it but looking out our window is an Osprey nest and a large bird or 2 is setting in it.
7:30 they keep lowering the amount of snow we might only get .1 inch of snow. Looking at the radar there is a wintery mix all around us but so far, here, no precipitation.

It only got down to 36 last night, but the wind, now that was something else, we rocked all night long. Some of the gust, well it’s daylight now and I don’t see any campers on their side ( joking almost) but last night I wondered with a couple of the gust. We were rocked to sleep only to be awakened by a mighty gust shaking the coach.
The power went out for a while, I hope someone in an office some place was able to throw a switch to get it to come back on because I don’t know how anyone could have driven last night let alone repair a downed power line. Was by far the strongest longest lasting wind storm we have ever been in.
We only got a few drops of rain last night as the wind was moving in, looks like most of the rain/snow/sleet is to the east and south of us.
About 20 miles north of here, we passed the marker in the way, is where they held 6 Green River Rendezvous back in the fur trapping days.
BTW one of the reasons I seem fixated on the cold temperatures (besides freezing to death) is our EXPENSIVE lithium battery, it can damage the battery if you use it when it’s below freezing. It sits under the step and is open to the outside cold. I have stopped up the holes as best I can, it doesn’t need to be vented like lead acid batteries, and leaving the step open to allow it to some heat in or cold out. I guess it’s time to find some kind of heated blanket or figure out some way to keep it from freezing.
A few pictures from our super short drive yesterday.
We went exploring this morning.
