Glaicer National Park post 4
9/1/2020
This morning we decided to check out the park for probably(hopefully) the last time this trip. We definitely want to come back, just not durning the BUSY season.
We started by taking a chance at find a parking spot at the summit, we’ll we reached the summit, the park was CROWDED. So crowded that at the top Park Rangers had the parking lot closed it was so full. I think they were letting in a random car every time somebody left, so we had to go on down the other side a ways to find a place to turn around. Well rats, I wanted to look for a tee shirt that they didn’t have in my size when we hiked up to hidden lake over look.
AND I Just found out about the grizzly bear and hikers on the trail Sunday. The hikers were a few miles beyond where we stopped at. There are so many people between the parking lot and the overlook that I don’t think one really needs to worry about a bear in that area.
Once off the mountain we ate a quick bite at a picnic area. Then decided to take the long scenic route home. Heading north towards a back way into the park, 10 miles later we’re on this gravel road washboarded road, now this is not your typical rough road, NOOOOOO, this has to have been the roughest road I have ever driven on. At one point doing about 8-10 MPH I took my foot off the gas because we were bouncing so bad, then we almost ended up sideways in the road, it was terrible. Shortly after that we decided to turn around. The only way to smooth out the ride was to increase speed but this left you with very little control. Of course that’s how all the locals drove.
Backtracking back to the main entrance we decided on another side trip, this time to where the raft trip ended. At least this gravel road was pretty smooth.
Then it was time to head home.
As usual I was keeping both eyes peeled for bigfoot. Mary only had to warn me to watch the road less that a dozen times. Them big fellows can pritneer hide in plain sight, ifton you don’t believe me just watch the ending of, I’m sure its a true story, Harry and the Hendersons. Did you see how they just sort of magically appeared then disappeared again into the woods!
