Glacier National Park part 2
8/23/2020
This morning we took a leisurely drive back towards the park and along the way we took a side trip to see Hungry Horse Reservoir, it’s just outside the town of Hungry Horse of course. It’s about 4 miles outside of town, the Road starts off as a decent 2 lane highway, once you get to the dam and drive across it, it turns into a narrower no centerline road, with a sign that says the road width varies for the next 20+miles. No big deal, not much out this way. We must have caught a lull in the traffic, we pull into a boat ramp to turn around and it’s pretty busy, on the way back out we met several trucks pulling boats. It appears that it’s a pretty popular lake, and its one big lake at 23,750 acres.
Up Up and away er I mean up
After we entered the park it was nearing lunch time so we had a simple lunch of summer sausage, cheese and crackers – minus the crackers……….. Don’t know how that happened but I had nothing to do with it. Then we decided to drive up to Logans Pass, the summit on the Going to the Sun Road. Just so happens we lucked into a parking spot. They have a hike there called Hidden Lake Trail, it’s listed as 1.5 miles each way. 3 miles round trip no problem, and it wasn’t really BUT the trail starts at 6646 feet in elevation and rises to 7152 feet or an elevation gain of 1328 feet. We both did a little huffing and puffing but only drank about a bottle and half of water between us so it wasn’t all that bad, the more water we drink the harder we’re working. All total we walked almost 4 miles, the trail signs lie, it should have been 3 miles.
It’s a pretty busy trail and well worth the effort. Actually we felt coming down was harder than going up. A lot of the trail is on slightly tilted up hill boardwalk with steps from one level to the next. It felt kinda awkward going down not only a little awkward but you had to really pay attention to where the steps were they blended in very well with the boardwalk itself.
There were a couple of places I had to take my hat off or risk it ending up a long ways from me, dueling those places a couple of times, I was wishing I had packed my toboggan like I had considered.
Totally unneeded because of the steady stream of people, the bear bells on my walking stick jingled all the way up and back.
I know the picture is a little fuzzy but if you look close you can see Bigfoot and a woman getting ready to mix it up.
Except for a very slight greenish tint the water up here is SO clear, it’s unbelievable.
A few random Pictures
Now the question is will we be able to move in the morning.
