National Bison Range
8/19/2020
With with a light rain and plenty of lightning we pulled out just before daybreak this morning headed for the National Bison Range. The write ups suggested getting there early while the animals are active.
Only a few drops were hitting the windshield as we started our epic journey up down and around hills, as we drove on the Red Sleeps Mountain Drive. Mary only had to tell me to watch where I was going a dozen times or so, the scenery was awe inspiring.
It was cool and a few rain drops falling from the cloudy sky for our first time around so we didn’t go out anywhere, on the second time around, more people in the park by then, we got out at both trails, the first trail was billed as a 1/4 mile walk, the second walk was billed as 1 mile 1/2 up and 1/2 down, an easy walk until you add 185 foot elevation gain, still no problem until you start the walk at 4700 feet elevation then the air starts getting kinda thin, at least to us from the Ohio Valley. We both made it with no problems.
Don’t look now but we kinda just ignored the signs about carrying BEAR SPRAY:)
