Parking lot camping:)
7/29/2020 drove 176 miles today Elevation 761.
Not much to say, hung out at the campground, Campers Cove CG in Alpena MI, until 10:30, that was not the easiest thing for me to do but I didn’t want to get here to early. Anyway, we pulled in to Soaring Eagle Casino Parking lot around 3:15. Full sun on the side, cranked up the heat on the inside causing us to need the generator and A/C. We don’t spend to many nights in a parking lot, but this one fit the bill. A good distance away. When we don’t have some place we need be I’v been trying to keep the drive 100-150 miles. The next few drives will be longer since we are needing to get back so So. Indiana.
UGH bad word bad word. As we were exiting the expressway the on ramp was blocked off. Once we got parked, big parking lot, I unhooked the jeep to make a run to the post office to drop something in the mail. And as I’m leaving the casino I realized that in order to leave you need to turn right (we need to go left) go about 1/2 block and make a U turn. I don’t think I can make that turn with RUBY, so I’m going to take a round about way to get turned around. And then with the south bound exit closed I have 2 choices, I can follow the detour signs into the unknown or I head back north and get turned around at the first exit. I think that’s the way I’m going to go because there is some construction on the expressway and it’s 1 lane. I’m afraid that the detour will have me trying to merge in 1 lane of expressway traffic and it takes a country mile to get up to speed.
With plans to stay in another parking lot, again this is not something we do very often but decided to make tracks for So. Indiana and want to get there earlier rather than later. Anyway once we decided to take off ………….Do you remember the song by Jerry Reed, Lord Mr Ford? Do you remember the line about once spending 4 days lost on a cloverleaf? Well, between road construction, wrong exit, and roundabouts, I kinda felt like that might be gonna happen for a while this morning. We finally got headed south, we were getting board with driving by the same houses and buildings and mile markers:)
7/30/2020.
Elevation 769 – The drive was 230 miles and we landed in a Walmart parking lot about 4:15. No other RV’s around but several semi’s around, over all it was a quiet, extra well lit, night.
7/31/2020 247 miles driven 1:30 elevation – 617
Originally I had planned to break todays drive up in 2 parts but after looking at the weather I decided to drive all the way. We pulled out of the Walmart in Fort Wayne around 6:30 AM to face the cloudy overcast day. Today was also scheduled to be a lot of 2 lane, I don’t like driving through Indianapolis IN, again because of the predicted rain I abandoned that idea and stuck to the the expressway. So, now we’re settled in Charlsetown State Park. The spot is muddy, they have put down some straw where someone had a rug or something down and killed the grass at the door, this is also a most un-level site! We would like her leveler but are making do. Did I mention this site is kinda muddy, with mud washed out over the pavement where we park the jeep.
We need to leave or move from this spot on the 7th, the Dr appointment is in on the 8th. What we’re going to do is still up in the air. Where we’re gong to stay a few days, until we pull out for parts unknown, will depend on the weather.
The reason for the push to get back, Michigan was almost as hot as it is here and by getting back before the dr appointment will give us time to do some projects here and then allow more time for exploring – from when we leave to when we need to be back at the end of September.
The End
