Keaton Beach FL
Dang, look at all of these words, I sure hope this makes more sense than the last post from the nut job!!
3/2/2020 Elevation GPS says 17 ft, in reality it’s closer to 3ft at high tide.
We pulled out of Holiday travel RV Park in Leesburg FL around 8:30 for our 179 mile drive. First traveling State Road 44 west, it’s a 4 lane highway with several of the hated stop lights. Can I make this light or will I need to slam on the brakes? A few of the busier intersection lights, here in FL, have the flashing caution lights that let you know the light is going to turn red before you get there. In the world according to Rex, all stop lights on roads with the speed limit over 35 should be required to have the flashing warning, the light is about to turn red before you get there, lights.
Anyway, turning north on State Road 19 in Crystal River FL for the longest stretch of the route. No complaints about this 4 lane road. Flat and mostly straight with just a few cities and towns to break things up. Though, the best word to describe this stretch of road would be boring!!!! Flat and straight is a good thing but with mostly forest on both sides of the road the scenery was lacking and while it looked like prime bigfoot territory we didn’t see any.
We’re parked with the front of the coach almost even with the rock retaining wall, pulling forward into the spot and not being able to see any dry land in front of the coach was a little unnerving, even though Mary was standing beside RUBY motioning me forward, it was still hard to do.
Ok, who wants to buy this for me please? Looks like you will need to copy and paste the link:(

If you’re feeling extremely generous (hint hint) I would settle for this one!

We momentarily tossed around the idea of buying something as an investment/income property in this area but decided with the purchase prices of property in the area it would be difficult at best to make it pay for its self and of the 2 (semi affordable for sale by owner) RV lots we looked at that were already set up for RV’s neither were easy to get an RV in and out of. And then, after talking to a realtor, she hinted that to get something as an income property it needs to have direct water (canal) access, Everything on the canal is well beyond our reach. A 50 X 100 ft lot on the canal is listed for $155,000 without sewer, electric or water on the lot or a boat dock. 2 lots this size, side by side, are for sale at this price. Or $255,000 you could have an elevated 2 bedroom 2.5 bath 1,220 sq ft condo with elevator on the canal complete with boat lift.
However if you happen to have the $$ apparently it’s possible to have something on the water easily rented most of the year. Scallops are big in this area and all of the rentals are rented from June through Labor Day, at a premium uncharge. We’re here the first week March and when we asked to stay an extra night we couldn’t because the CG is full the next night.
This is not a bad area to stay in but unless you have a boat there is not a lot to do onshore.

Steinhatchee FL Falls
We took a drive to Steinhatchee FL Falls it’s about 20 miles from here, the route took us through the bigger than Keaton Beach town of Steinhatchee FL.
The river must be up quite a bit because all you could really see was a ripple, the online photos showed an actual falls so a couple of feet. Nothing to see here.
The state(?) owns thousands & thousands of acres around here and they are in the process of converting it back into mostly pine forest with controlled burns of the underbrush although we did see a couple of places where they went through with a heavy duty bush hog mowing down anything under about 20-30 foot tall trees.
If I had to make a guess as to why the state owns so much ground on the gulf side is—– drum roll please. Bigfoot found a couple of Spanish ship wrecks full of gold and cut a deal with the state, the gold for large tracks of ground and put back to it’s natural habitat.
