Lesson Learned
Dang, what a hike. We went to White Sands National Monument this morning. This is a way cool place that words or pictures can not do justice!!. It needs to be on your list of places to stop!!!! Anyway we started out on a 5 mile loop hike. First it was considerably more strenuous that we anticipated. Going down the dunes was easy, going up, another story, lets just say that our cardio systems got a good workout. Anyway, it was overcast and cool when we took off with water in hand. At about mile & 1/2 the clouds disappeared the sun came out bright, so we decided to go back the way we came. The trail was featureless, white sand dunes are all you could see from the valleys, Mountains and white sand dunes are all you could see from the top of a dune. So we didn’t mind turning around. The lesson learned? When in the desert ALWAYS have hat and sunglasses with you. Barefoot is probably the preferred footwear, I don’t think we’ll ever get all the sand out of our shoes.
