RUBY was a rock star
Not knowing what we were really getting into, back in the spring we singed up for an RVillage rally…….. little did I know!!, anyway by signing up early we had had our choice of spots, a quick look at the map and we grabbed a corner spot, it also gives us a good views of the traffic and traffic jams with all the RV’s coming in..
With dealing with the issues back in Indiana we were both a little frazzled and looking for someplace warmer, so we ended up checking in 2 days early, not a bad thing considering the number of RV’s that came rolling in.We also elected to stay an extra day and avoid the rush to leave.
One jaw dropper that came in was……..
So, we’re sitting in our chairs watching the rigs come in and along comes this semi with a big sleeper cab, behind the sleeper are a pair of stacked Can AM’s, 3 wheel motorcycles, behind them is a big 5th wheel camper, attached to the frame of the 5th wheel is a carrier with swivel wheels under it, on the swivel wheel carrier sits a smart car, sitting sideways. Sorry no pictures.
Someone said they had 600 spots, and 800 acres here, I believe it, the place is huge and packed. Also the sites are quite narrow, super glad we snagged a corner spot. the guy beside us couldn’t put his slide all the way out, the same with most of the spots. They also had a large field or 2 for dry camping, lots of campers there toooooo.
Our corner lot, chosen only because on the map it looked easy to get in and out of on the map, put RUBY front and center of a large portion of the park. Let me tell you while she was not the oldest, she was the talk of the park. I don’t have any idea how many people took her picture, but it was a LOT. The eyes that we put in the windshield really set her off and everyone wanted to take a pic and or talk. The rally its self was not really our cup of tea and we probably won’t do another one ,at least one this large.
While here, Mary signed up for a driving lesson in RUBY and of of course she had to act up, first from the factory, the power steer unit is to small and squeals loudly when trying to turn the wheel while stopped (basically you can’t turn the wheel while stopped) and of course that’s what the instructor wanted her to do, then to top it off we must have picked up a piece of dirt in a valve in the air line.
Before the instructor came we started her up and she aired up like usual, a little slow but airs up, the instructor arrives Mary starts RUBY up and she’s very SLOW to air up, Mary does her driving just fine, no emergency room trips because I had a heart attack or anything like that, Mary goes to back in the spot and all of a sudden low air, she needs to fast idle to build up air pressure. Eventually she gets backed in.
The next day I considered running up to the Loves truck stop down the road to see if they had a mobile mechanic who could come out, but first I decided to start her up and see if it would air up and she did with no problem…… go figure. BTW a larger PS unit is on my wish list of this to change sometime.
We were also interviewed for a possible book being written about RVillage, she said a 15 minuet interview, 45 minutes later and several pictures were taken before the interview ended. We were also kinda interviewed by a volunteer from Rvillage making sure it would be ok for them to use pictures of RUBY in the future.
We or I love RUBY was the most common phrase of people walking to driving by. followed by, is it ok to take a picture was the second most common phrase.
