Stockholm WI on the Great River Road
9/22 & 9/23 Elevation685
We spent two nights at the Villiage of Stockholm Campground Park. We were right on and facing the Mighty Mississippi River. We thought we would be able to watch the barge traffic go by, but for some reason that seems to be all but nonexistent. Sunday when we arrived there were a large number of sail boats on the water, but only a couple of barges have went by and 2 paddle wheelers, one smaller one and one monstrous one.
Just down river about 6 miles is Pepin WI is the birth place of Laura Ingalls Wilder, author of Little House on the Prairie fame. She was born about 7 miles back from the river in 1867.
We were hoping to follow the changing leaves down river but it looks like we’re going to be a couple of weeks to early, but due to other commitments we won’t be able to hang out in the area that long. But change is on the way, I can almost see a difference every day.
