Kansas ain’t all flat
6/7/2019
Yea, I know I’m kinda slacking and haven’t posted much lately.
Much to my surprise, Kansas ain’t all flat!! It has humps, lumps and small hills and marshlands tooooooo.
I gotta admit, different places you can see a far distance and the fields are massive but here and there are lumps bumps and a few rollercoasters hills. We’ve been 2 laneing it and we were on this one road and it kinda reminded of the humps down on highway 11, only without the trees or houses. Up one and down the other, this went on for a few miles. Then there are some small hills here and there, not to big but from the top you can see for a long ways.
Then there is this big ole marsh land just down the road, between Ellinwood and Ellinsworth, we spent 3 nights in Ellinwood, we passed the marsh going to the mushroom rocks. We were going to stop on the way back, but it started raining, I might melt and dissolve a way to nothing you know, so we kept on going……..:) I did say dissolve…. NOT float away!!
I must admit from what we have seen so far, we expected it to be a little flatter.
The mushroom rocks were ok, but for some reason I was expecting more, there might be another place that has them also.
The best thing we did was yesterday 7/4/2019. We took a tour of an underground salt mine. It was pretty interesting. 650 feet down in the lift in about 90 seconds
Not only do they mine salt there, but they have the museum and they house a lot of movie memorabilia and old films.
It’s still a working mine also, most of the salt goes on roads or for cattle.
Motrin salt has a plant here also, what they do is pump water into the salt layer, let it dissolve the salt, let the brine water set still so the impurities settle to the bottom then pump the salt brine to the surface, evaporate the water and you have table salt.
