Now that’s a tourist trap if I have ever seen one. It started off as a gold mining town, now it’s claim to fame are the tame burros that you can pet and feed. The town is maybe 2 blocks long with shops selling the typical tourist trap souvenirs and shirts on each side. It’s located at the base of some mountains in the middle of no where.
Besides the burros, it’s also located on the mother road, Route 66. From our direction to get to it we had to cross Sitgreaves Pass, now that’s one crooked, skinny, no guard rails road with some 10 MPH curves.
A sign at the beginning said nothing over 40 foot long allowed, I thought the Jeep was a might to big at times, sure wouldn’t want to be in anything longer that a truck and drive it. We also all but squashed some kind of larger lizard…… it’s a good thing he could move fast.
We came back a different way, we followed the Colorado river north a ways. This one area had all of these businesses that rented jet skis and small boats, looking out at the river, I don’t see how they didn’t run over each other, they were everywhere going every which direction.
A little later we drove through the Kathryn’s landing area on Mohave Lake, it’s downstream from Lake Mead but is still part of the Lake Mead Recreation Area. Again many jet skis and boats but not as crowded except along the shore line. There, it was canopy to canopy set up along the shore, some about 1/2way in the water, I guess that’s one way to beat the heat. Looking at some of the non paved, yet painted parking areas I would say today was a VERY SLOW day.
