Dam that’s big
Or that’s one big dam!
We drove over to see Hoover dam today, it was about 70 miles one way. Part of the reason for the trip was to check out the route to see if we wanted to go that direction.
First we walked along the bridge over the Colorado River. They have closed the winding road, that crosses the dam, that once was the only way across the river, now they have a nice 4 lane bridge with a walk beside it. It lets you look way down on the Dam and river. The wind was gusting pretty good at times it was hard to walk against. You really had to hold onto things like glasses, cameras and hats.
Once you go through a security check point, you can still drive across the dam, park then walk across the dam, which we did.
Walking across the dam I have NEVER seen so many inconsiderate SOB in my entire life. Ok, so the sidewalk is city sidewalk wide. 2 people can meet one going each direction. Mary and I were walking single file while these @#$ walked towards you 2 & 3 abreast leaving no room. We were walking on the very edge and they were positively clueless.
One thing that may be hard to tell from some of the pictures is there are several cars parked at the rivers edge just below the dam.
Once we left the Dam area we drove along the shore of Lake Meade, It’s WAY down by the way. Anytime we drove down near the water, the GPS showed us way in the water, many in needs to be updated. Leaving the lake area we were kinda on the edge of Vegas, nope didn’t go there, to hot and to much traffic for me.
For a split second I thought we were goners!!
We came out of the Meade Lake area several miles from the Colorado River and the bridge to head back. As the afternoon wore on the wind really picked up. So as we were nearing the bridge they had a sign saying high profile vehicles prohibited…… with no place for them to pull off, somebody goofed big time in my book.
Anyway, we’re on the bridge the wind is blowing big time, I’m holding on tight to the wheel when all of a sudden we’re hit by a gust, I swear the Jeep literally scooted sideways about 6 inches and it felt as if the drivers side was lifted up a couple of inches, I think the steering wheel now has some more finger impressions in it, cause, well it’s a good thing it’s really sturdy and solid because it would have broken otherwise.
