Montezuma
Next up on our secret journey was Montezuma’s Castle.
Again this is another cliff dwelling the castle had 5 stories in it. So it was pretty good sized, hum that might be the reason it’s called a castle.
More words below.
After that is was on to another large hole in the ground. Montezuma’s well. It’s not really a well but a spring.but it’s really big around, so big that there are the remains of cliff dwellings around it. The water leaves the “well” under some rocks and flows into a small river. But the cliff dwellers built a channel to divert the water for irrigation.
More words below.
After that we went to the VbarV Ranch for some more pictographs. They had an interpreter here, she explained that it was a type of calendar. Originally it had 2 stones sticking out that showed the winter and summer solstice. One of the stones has fallen out within the last couple of years.
While nobody knows the meaning of most of the glyphs some of then were very intricate. She also said they used at least 2 different methods to create the pictographs, one was direct tapping, the other was to use one rock tapping another rock.
