Marfa TX

We pulled out of Van Horn TX around 10:30 am For the 89 Mile drive to Marfa. It’s a small wide spot in the middle of the road, famous for the Marfa lights.
The Marfa lights, also known as the Marfa ghost lights, have been observed near U.S. Route 67 on Mitchell Flat east of Marfa, Texas, in the United States. They have gained some fame as onlookers have ascribed them to paranormal phenomena such as ghosts, UFOs, or will-o’-the-wisp, etc. However, scientific research suggests that most, if not all, are atmospheric reflections of automobile headlights and campfires

It didn’t take us to long to get here, we rolled in about 1 pm That was even with several stops and one turnaround because I missed the Prada spot. Who knew……. Some “artist” decided to put this little building in the middle of no where and make it look like a Parda store. The building had a fence around it and now people are attaching locks to the fence, whatever.
I’m sure glad it didn’t take all that long to get here because a cross wind is ripping, now that we’re stopped the RV rocks side to side with some of the wind gust. While I could do without the wind at least it’s warm here, as in the furnace didn’t come on at all last night. Right now it would be very comfortable out, in short sleeves, if the wind would lay down.
We’re in a large flat plain fences on both sides of the road and railroad track, every so often there are gates with ranch names but I haven’t seen a single house so they must be WAY off the road.
The ground cover is knee high brown grass of some type broken up with a greenish looking grass of the same height.
The north south train tracks are not as busy as the east west ones in Van Horn and I did notice one Amtrak running north, I had several cars in it, train travel may still be a popular way to travel.
Looking in the direction where we expect to see the lights, the distance is phenomenal, it’s so flat I’m not sure my tired old eyes will be able to see anything here, I guess that since this is such a popular spot its a good thing they have installed viewing binoculars.
This is obviously a popular spot they built a viewing platform completely with restrooms and large parking lot for RV’s like us to spend the night and I think I read some place they have some viewing parties or something like that from time to time.
At dusk
Well, I couldn’t see a thing through them funky binoculars, but from the viewing platform we got to see them.
Across the way is a set of mountains, and on the sides of one of them are the lights, I saw 3-4 at once and they were moving up or down the mountain.
Not sure what’s causing them, all kinds of theories, but they were first reported in 1883, so they have been around a while.
