Dodged a bullet
We dogged a bullet then shot ourselves in the foot. Let me tell you how our day unfolded. We pulled out about 8:30 for a 180 mile 2 lane drive, most of which turned out to be 4 lane highway. But along the way, part of the 2 lane was kinda rough and sped up a problem that, unknown to us, was developing.
A sensor arm, that tells the computer how much air is in the air shock, on one of the airbags came loose causing a rougher ride. Think if it as no shocks on your car. The computer, of course, thought the airbag was full. As we drove the ride became rougher, finally worried we sought help diagnosing the problem.
Long story short(er), we were in front of a repair shop, they couldn’t identify the problem, they were reluctant to work on it anyway. I was making arrangements to be towed to a another repair shop in a different city, when I realized that it was just the one front shock that would not inflate, from a past issue I had the guy looking at the rear of the coach. Quick glance at the front shock and the loose sensor – 2 zip ties later and we are on the road…. no charge from the shop… they just wished us a safe journey. Dodged that bullet, it still needs to be fixed permanently but now we can now decide when and where.
Meanwhile, we shot ourselves in the foot because we had reservations at a place for a week that we canceled. Hour and 1/2 later called and our canceled spot had already been taken by someone else.
To go along with that we were going to spend tonight in a vacant Walmart parking lot, the location given to me by a Walmart manager last night. The parking lot was originally to be plan B if necessary, but when he said it was ok to park there and looking on maps it had a symbol for parking, plan B became plan A. We arrived and newly posted signs said no over night parking. So 5:00PM and we are scrambling to find a place when everything around is full.
First we checked out the Loves in Paris TX, they were all back in and all taken, it’s a smaller truck stop, If one of the fuel lanes had not been open we would have had to unhook the jeep to get turned around to get out of the truck parking area
We finally found a back in DOUBLE UGH…. For the night. Its kinda of in the expensive side
I’m not even going to mention, while trying to find the Loves Truck Stop, the little trip we took through downtown Paris TX, driving on a 2 lane one way street with cars parked on each side when suddenly the road turns 90 degrees, one lane turning left the other right, the road in front of us is now one way coming at us, so 90 degree turn onto a narrow street one lane street, with parking on it, the jeep is just getting straight with the coach when it’s another 90 degree turn the other way.
Oh, and one other tidbit of information, We can’t just bypass the area where we had our week scheduled, because we made arrangements to have our mail sent general delivery to that post office so here it is Friday and we need to fined a place to stay until at least Tuesday and most CG’s are full UGH!!!
The next day we moved about 160 mile, crossed into Arkansas and found a spot within driving distance to the post office where our mail was being delivered.
Due to the mail situation and rain in the forecast we’re sitting tight for at least 4 nights.
