Sorry New Mexico
2/19/2019. Elevation 4037
What a shock, we went to bed last nigh listening to a very light rain, woke up this morning to 1.5 to 2 inches of snow on all the trees and elevated areas. We knew they had a slight chance of snow in the overnight forecast but didn’t expect any real snow.
Also when we went to bed last night we knew some colder weather was moving in with the lows in the mid teens and was going to be that cold for several days, not happy about that but doable. Woke up this morning and those teens in the extended forecast dropped down to the single digits. That’s to cold for this wimpy boy.
Looking around for some warmer weather none could be found except down in Texas. Sorry Eastern Arizona and New Mexico your to cold for me. With dense but patchy fog this morning we hooked up the Jeep and off we went. Why freeze when your home has wheels. Here, it will still be down below freezing tonight but after that looks like good weather, windy of course. Setting here with the door open, scattered high thin clouds with sunshine, it has been way to cold to have the door open for the last several days to a couple of weeks, where we were, and it was expected to only get colder.
To be honest we really didn’t want to leave because we still had several things we wanted to do in Arizona, then take our time crossing New Mexico. Guess that’s a good excuse to go back some time.
I will admit it was a pretty long day at 361 miles however the weather should be much nicer.

For the first time in several days or weeks, it didn’t get below freezing last night and it’s only supposed to get warmer. We’re in a little Texas town called Van Horn. It, like most small towns it’s struggling to survive. About the only thing it has going for it, is its on the interstate.
I’m sure the train traffic with the loud horns don’t do it any favors in review department for the hotels and Campgrounds around.
This Campground at least is full of one nighters like us, although we’re staying 2 nights, looking for warmer weather.
I was tired last night and didn’t notice the trains to bad, today they are running fairly pretty frequently.
Oh, and best of all about this small little town we’re in, it counts civilization because they have Big Red here.
Strangely I passed on the Big Red and went for this instead.
