Providence Canyon State Park
April 10, 2023
Aggravation loading! We had our mail delivered to the small town of Georgetown GA. It usually takes around 4 days from the time we request it, the first snafu came, which we knew about a head of time, was a snow & Ice Storm in Rapid City SD, that delayed the mail by 2 days, then our mail ended up in Jacksonville FL, we’re not all that far from Atlanta GA. So now this morning, April 11, 8:00, and all we know is that mail has been delayed, no indication of where its at or anything. Oh, later around 9 it said it was delivered.
I need to mention that a cold front came through Friday night and it rained ALL DAY Saturday, but at least it’s comfortable temperature again, at least for a few days.
Yesterday, while we were waiting on the mail, we explored Providence Canyon State park in GA. Back in the early 1800’s farmers moved in and cut down all the trees. This allowed rain to wash away the top soil, by the 1850’s ditches 3-5 foot deep had formed, and today the area consist of 16 steep sided canyons, some of the canyons are 150 feet deep. The canyon floor trails were in the sandy creeks, solid enough to walk on and shallow enough to not get your shoes wet, I am glad we gave it an extra day to dry out after the rain on Saturday. We ended up walking a little over 4 miles and still missed two canyons.
On the way back to the campground a turkey hit us, I don’t know if he was attempting suicide or he wanted to sit on Mary’s lap, if her window was down a little further, she had it down about 1/3 of the way down at the time, he would have succeeded in making his way inside the van.
What I am sure of when he hit, he folded the mirror in, and if Mary had her window a little lower he would have came in, now that would have NOT been fun!!!! It was bad enough as it was, now I can’t seem to get the mirror set back like it was and it looks different when I look at it. I didn’t see him on the road from the drivers side mirror, so I think he lived through his experience with only a good body ache.
The end
