We must be in California!
The water where we filled up our water tanks doesn’t taste so good, so while out exploring today we made a stop at Wally World to pick up some drinking water. You know the place where they double bag everything, sometimes putting one item in what seems like each bag, when you get home you have 10-20 wally world bags.
Well, not in California. They charged us .10 for a wally world bag, now admit it’s a good reusable bag but still, I guess it’s a good thing we only picked up a couple of items. This was in the you scan area, I’m not fond of them simply because they eliminate jobs, but they are forcing people into using them or stand in line for an hour.
Anyway a dime for each bag, and we stopped at Walgreens for a couple of things before Wally World, and she kinda made sure I didn’t need a bag, I guess because she was going to need to charge me for the bag if I wanted one.
Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t mind seeing some easier recycling options along with some educational commercials on the need for recycling. OF course to go along with that manufacturing could cut back on the way they package items.
Now that I’m off my soapbox, its back to more of my boooooring gobbledygook.
The drive through Joshua Tree was ok, it’s a very busy park and way to crowded for my taste. The one hike we considered the parking lot was full so we bypassed it. We may go back but I seriously doubt it. The park is very big and it’s something like 30 miles each way back to the trail head. We both felt the park was underwhelming and probably won’t make the effort to go back at least this time.
To go along with wildlife viewing and hikes, the park is a draw for rock climbers, each little pull off was full of cars and climbers.
It’s not a good park to do a sudden day exploration. It’s on the expensive side at $30 to get in. That was the cheapest entry price point. Now that $30 gets you a 7 day pass but if your just passing through for a day stop….OUCH.
We didn’t pay anything to get in, while at Mesa Verde we bought an $80 all access pass which gets us into all the National Parks. Just for the record I don’t know what the entry fee was on the other 2 parks, but between the 3 we have paid for the all access pass.
Gas here ain’t cheap either $3.59 a gallon.
For a free spot this isn’t to bad but for some reason we’re getting a good bit of expressway noise, most notably at night, I think it’s because of nothing between us and the expressway and Mountains on the other side to bounce the noise back at us. The truck traffic is more like white noise. But that sports car, we are in CA after all, was most loud and annoying. We’re about as far from no where as you can get. I don’t know what he was doing but he would come into the truck stop, stay a couple of minutes then go through the gears, turn around 5 miles down the road and come back.
