Stephen C. Foster State Park
Tuesday, April 4, 2023
We spent 1 night in Stephen C Foster State Park, while according to the GPS the park was only 15 miles as the crow flies, BUT to drive there the shortest route was 78 miles, we took the longer route, so we drove a little over 100 miles. This park is way back in the middle of nowhere! The last turn on the road was 17 miles of nothing but with swamp and pine trees, many of which had been harvested and replanted.
Anyway not as much to see in the park as we had hoped, that is unless you had or rented a boat then you could go to a couple of islands (Pine or Billys) that at one time housed quite a large number of people. I think something like 600 people lived on this one island. Because of the heat and humidity, we decided against renting a boat this trip, but hope to go back again in cooler weather sometime.
We walked about a mile along this one canal thinking we were headed to Pine island with some building foundations on it, we later decided that the lady we talked to and had the names of the islands mixed up. I think she was talking about Billys island that you needed to get to by boat.
Only a couple of gators were on our side of the canal all the others were on the far side.
The End
