Breakfast with an Alligator
Date 3/1/2023
From the swamp tour we continued heading west, ended up driving 209 miles that day. We ended up in Eastern Texas, a few of the places we were looking at were closed due to hurricane damage, that’s the reason we drove so far that day.
Along the way we made reservations at a Core of Engineers Park, Mill Creek, from there we bounced around a few other area COE parks, Twin Dikes and Sandy Creek, while relaxing in the comfortable weather and decided to have some mail delivered.
There are alligators in the area, this one I’m pretty sure wanted to have Mary as a breakfast snack, he was watching me, then Mary walked down and he started licking his lips, thinking snack time.
The fishing pier was pretty low to the water once we walked out on it, the gator studied us and then slowly sank under the water, we decide to not stay on the pier, concerned that he was big enough and the pier was low enough that things might get more interesting than we wanted if he decided he wanted one of us for breakfast.
Some other random pictures from our stay at different COE parks, we played some games and Mary was studying a quilt.
After 5 nights in COE parks the mail made it to the postoffice in Nome Alaska, oops that’s Nome TX, so we decided to head and collect the mail and drive off into the sunset, actually I don’t like to drive after dark and we’re going to head east and not west.
3/10/2023 after picking up our mail and spending then night under some big oak trees in a small city park, Winnie TX. On the way to Nome we made a stop in Big Thicket National Preserve. After talking to the guy at the Visitors Center, he sent us on a hike to see some picture plants, they are carnivores plants and eat insects.
