What a day – part 1 of 3
11/3/2018
With map (haha) in hand we started our day with gusto looking forward to finding some ruins and petroglyphs. The map indicated that along this one road there were several ruins and or petroglyphs. Now in this area for versions reasons there no signs or tail markers telling you where points of interest are.
Stop # 1 didn’t turn out so well. We made our way, without a trail, hard to have a path on solid rocks, to the edge of cliff. After wandering around for a while, finally found the ruins across the canyon as expected we never did find the petroglyphs, I’m pretty sure we would have had to climb down into the canyon, did’t really went to do that so we moved on down the road.
Stop # 2 said it was 2.5 Miles round trip to the ruins. Again you can’t really have a trail on solid rock, so kinda following the guide lines referenced in the map, we picked out the spot we thought was the correct area. And made for it. This was not an easy climb mostly it was solid rock but all uphill, we just kept an eye out for shoe prints in some of the thin soil areas to kinda make sure we were going in the correct direction. Up we went finally the few foot points led us down into the gully and up we go again noting to steep for the most part but always up. While it never felt dangerous, because of how steep some of the rocks were I would not wanted to try it if the rocks were wet. Finally the trail pewter’s out, we never did find anything resembling the ruins described on the map. Back down we go, over all this hike was about 1.5 miles but it really kicked my azz, I was dragging the rest of the day.
With 2 for 2 strike outs we decided to abandoned that idea and move on to the next idea. The “county” road we were on went on for several miles. It was a very pretty drive, not really noticeable in the beginning but we were climbing higher and higher, some where on one of the many pull offs we had lunch.
We didn’t take very many pictures on this portion of the day.
