Hum, now what?
We managed to get 2 nights at St George Island State Park, but they were a few days away, so we spent 3 nights at Eastbank Campground, on Seminal Lake. Then we spent 1 night at Wright Lake, arriving just before it started raining. Woke up to rain looking at the radar more was on the way, so we took off for the State Park which was about an hour away. 5 minutes from the CG it just started pouring, we slowed way down, met a few cars with flashers on and looking a head the sky looked like it was getting lighter. A few miles from the CG was just a light sprinkle, 10 miles down the road and it was not raining. 20 miles down the road, when we reached the ocean the sun was shining and it was warm. We rolled into the SP and killed some time until it was time to go to our site. The weather was sunny and almost warm, so we walked on the beach, the next day was much cooler so we didn’t do a lot of beach walking.

We had reserved 3 nights back at Fort Pickens, where we stayed when we first hit Florida, but we got an email saying that due to the weather they were closing the park for 2 nights. Now what? We debated and came back to Open Pond in Alabama, we couldn’t change our plans to much because we had already booked our next site, another 200 miles away from Fort Pickens. While the park is mostly empty, I will confess that I was worried that it would be full from the campers being forced to leave Fort Pickens. We managed to get a good site that we pulled into and over looked the lake and fishing pier. Unfortunately for a wimpy guy like me it was just a tad too cool to sit outside.
1/27 through 2/1
We’re making out way north so Mary can have a couple of routine Dr. appointments, along the way we plan to stop in Nashville and get a new screen door installed and the awning repaired.
This stop is at Jennings Ferry Campground, it’s on Black Warrior Lake and it’s also part of the Ten – Tom waterway that goes from Mobile Bay Alabama up to Kentucky Lake and eventually the Ohio River. We have a decent spot where we can watch the barges go by, there are other really nice spots right on the water, but they are not on the main channel so you can’t watch the barge traffic from your site.
The weather warmed up enough that we managed to play most of a game of dominos before getting to chilled and wimpy me had to go in.
We decided since we had the time and with the river in our front yard we decided to stay here for a total of 5 nights.
I believe the park had a few storm damaged trees that were cleaned up before we got there, as we took a couple of short drives we found where a tornado tore through a spot along the river, if the track had moved about 100 yards it would have went through an area with a bunch of campers in it and it looked to me like there were a few being lived in full time.
This will PROBABLY be the last post until after Mary’s last routine Dr.’s appointment, it might even be mid March before I do another post.
The End
