WAIT, what direction did I just drive?

I can’t believe I just did that, it’s totally the WRONG direction…….. north! Yup  I just drove about 120 mile north.

From Gallup it’s not all that far to the 4 corners area. While the 4 corners monument was very high on my list of things to see I was underwhelmed and somewhat disappointed. I’m not sure what I expected but. I guess what really disappointed me was it’s nothing more that a place for the natives to sell their stuff. The markers are surrounded on 4 sides by small booths selling stuff, durning the off season, like this there were only a few open, to their credit they were not pushy and just let us walk on by.

Then we went to the Hovenweep National Monument so Mary could get another stamp in her Passport book.

It’s the 700 year old remains of several rock structures build along a small valley. We only walked just over a mile, while we did see all the remaining structures we didn’t do the loop walk because it was getting late.

Between the lying GPS and the lying signs I thought we would never get there and we almost didn’t get out of there……….. We started with 1/2 tank of gas and the gas light came on just as I was pulling into a gas station. First of all we came out on a main road almost 80 miles further north from where we realized we would be, the signs were very misleading. Then the (@#$%$#@) GPS didn’t show the closest gas stations. Out of fear of running out of gas I picked the closest one, further from where we wanted to go, only to realize on the way home that we were not to far from. SEVERAL gas stations that didn’t show up on the GPS.

Did I mention that it was almost dark when we got home?

About the gas light coming on and why I was getting worried, just the other day we heard about a family crossing back to the USA from Canada, He’s in the RV lane and gets up to his turn to move forward and talk to the border patrol agent…..You guessed it truck runs out of fuel and he’s now blocking the only RV Lane open and as you can imagine border patrol is getting nervous when he starts pulling out diesel fuel cans……….. Everything turned out ok and 15 minutes later truck is started. He said the reason he ran out of fuel is the milage indicator said he still had 35 miles go.
