Rex Mesuem – Well of course I had to stop!!
11/2 & 3/2018 Elevation 6644 – Gallup & Church Rock NM
I ran across the Rex Museum and just knew I had to stop, well I have been in better museum but the guy running it was great to talk to and the price was right at free but I donated a few $$ anyway. It’s a Historical Museum of the Gallup area. The building, built around 1900, started as a hotel but over the years has been many things including a grocery store and brothel. We didn’t take any pics of anything on the inside. It was just one larger room with noting extraordinary in it. We didn’t get to see any of the rooms upstairs.
At one time there were over 50 coal mines in the area, but the town got its start as a train stop. Now there are trains every 19 minutes 24/7/365 and they all blow their horns. Some of the trains are louder than others but fortunately we are far enough from the road where they sound the horns that we can’t hear the horns, just the trains.
We’re spending the night in Red Rock Park, they host a lot rodeos and a hot air balloon festival in December here in the park.
Didn’t sleep the best last night, the guy knocking on our door, 2 separate times, after dark asking for food probably didn’t help any. Someone must have called the police because 2 police cars came through a little while later.
Looking out this mornings I see some the cause for some of noises we heard. Something, or someone, knocked over all the 55 gal barrel trash cans around.
We were going to do a hike but decided to hit the road and save the hike for another trip, the park is very near the expressway so I’m sure we’ll be this way again.
