Syrup Tasting
Date Tuesday, October 4 2022
You’ve heard of wine tasting well let me tell you Syrup tasting is the way to go, I think I should become a professional.
We stopped at another Harvest Host this time Mom & Pops Vermont Maple Syrup. They had several flavors to taste. Get a plastic spoon add a few drops from the squeeze bottle, taste the sample, repeat with different sample, then try another one of course.
I didn’t count them but they had 10 – 12. The ones infused with flavors were the best, they even had one infused with bourbon and another with whiskey, one with blueberry, my favorite though was the cinnamon infused, sadly I might start having withdrawals when the one we bought runs out, maybe I need to buy a tanker truck to follow us round.
It wasn’t very far from the ski resort to Mom & Pops, so with some time to kill, we took off for Montpelier, the capitol of Vermont, turns out it’s not that large. We went looking for a Walgreens. The first one was downtown mid block with no parking, they had some paid parking, but it was all full. Next stop was about 5 miles away. The signs were not very inviting about being towed if you were not a customer. Well anyway, they are not giving shots, and she said that very few pharmacies are giving shots, and the few that were by appointment only. We didn’t get one while we were in New Hampshire because I wanted to go to a Walgreens in a more populated area thinking the pharmacist would have a little more experience giving shots, it totally slipped my mind when we were near Bangor ME. I guess we’ll keep looking.
Allergies are bothering both of us. UGH!!!!
Driving around before we made it the Mom & Pops
Mom & Pops is a small, extra close to the road store, they ran dairy cows before getting out of the dairy business and started making syrup. I forget how many trees they tap. I believe she said about 20,000. Thats a lotta trees to tap. They drill a small hole in the tree, insert the tap line which connects to the tap line which connects to a larger line until it reaches a barrel or something that is brought to the barn to be boiled down.
Wednesday, October 5 2022 we put Vermont in the rearview mirror today when we crossed into Massachusetts.
On the drive we took a spur of the moment detour to Justin Smith Morrill Historic Site, some dude I’v never heard of. Things were locked up tight, but I think in the summer time they may have the buildings open for people to walk through.
