Update on my shoulder
10/1/2018
UGH!!!!
What a royal screwup the Dr’s office is. I went to see my GP on September 11th, he prescribed an MRI and to see a specialist. WELL, 13 days later the office FINALLY calls to schedule the MRI. 13 days, this is also after Mary called and left 2 reminders that we still had not heard anything. Then they wanted to schedule it 2+ weeks out.
It just so happened that the next day, #14, was yet ANOTHER royal screwup in the Dr’s office. Back in July Mary called to set up appointments for our yearly physical.
Whoever ( insert descriptive derogatory description of your choice) set up the appointments called them follow ups, follow up to WHAT???? So it’s the day after they called with appointment for the MRI, we show up for our appointments, and are told that we can’t get the physicals main reason is because it hadn’t been a year and a day yet. This is something they are supose to tell you when setting up a physical. Mary cancled hers, I kept mine so I could fuss at the DR about not having an appointment with a specialist yet, he got them to move up the MRI, 3 days and 1 MRI later I still hadn’t heard anything from the specialist.

After the MRI the GP’s office calls to say that I have a small partial tear of one of my rotor cuff muscles, a lot of inflimation and some moderate arthritic changes. He doesn’t think I need surgery or to see a specialist but I should have some Physical therapy.
We’ll see how long it takes to get the PT set up. Here it’s getting time for us to pull out and it looks like we’re going to need to stay for a few days so I can see what the PT is all about.

Well it’s been over a month and I FINALLY had my evaluation and first physical therapy. Fortunately the anti inflammatory meds the Dr gave me are helping get back some movement, now it’s just finding a spot in or outside the RV and the having the discipline to continue my streaching exercises once we start rolling again. It’s all just streaching exercises that I can do on my own.
Currently I have 2 more appointments set up, then it’s time to go some place warmer. I have already had to scrape frozen dew off the Jeep once and as far as I’m concerned that’s 2 time to many!!!! As of this writing they have frost advisories out for tonight. Thanks a lot Dr. Dan’s office……..NOT!!!! We should have been on the road by now!!!!
Well, I had my second PT today 10/17/2018, well over a month AFTER my initial visit. Totally unacceptable but I can’t do anything about it. Anyway, I told them it’s getting to cold here for me and that we’re outta here tomorrow. He suggested I look up a PT place when we get out west, only problem is we’re going to spend 2 months in the middle of nowhere. 35 miles to the nearest Wally World and 90+ Miles to Walgreens.
Dr. Dan E, you need to kick some axx in your office and the office of the specialist you were going to send me to, it had been 3 days and I still had not heard from them, I had to call to get the appointment set up myself!!!………… BTW it’s a good thing I was not dying because if I was I would be dead with the unacceptable length of time it took at the various offices to set up appointments. I will say the girls working the MRI we’re very professional, the same with the PT office.
After this I’m probably going to avoid all things Baptis Health!!!!

Sorry, Rex. I often tell people that they have to be their own health advocate. Healthcare professionals today do not have the vested interest in patients as people that they used to. Happy trails, do your exercises and keep in touch!
Sorry to hear you’re fighting shoulder troubles, Rex. My mom had rotator cuff surgery back in April and it has not been a successful surgery. She’s still in a lot of pain, despite attending all of the physical therapy and doing everything she was supposed to. I’m glad that yours is responding to medication. Keep up your stretching and hopefully yours will go away altogether. Say hi to Mary and you guys have fun and be safe! We hope to see you around the holidays!
Rex,
Bummer on the medical stuff and foul ups! But do do do those boring stretching drills. It’s up to you. I’ve had impingement of the rotator cuff as well as a frozen shoulder; that after stripping/refinishing my kitchen cabinets and sanding. Too much repetitive motion. But I did what the PT told me to do. Some of it looked ridiculous. Get strong where you are weak and you should be fine. But do the work. It’s up to you. Those stretchy bands come in handy too; for strengthening. A lot can be found on line. Be your own PT. If your PT showed you the exercises, you’re on your own and should be fine. PTs are guides. You do the work. Feel well!
Doug
