Back in Gotham NH

This post was going to be called a day in pictures take 2 however it’s not! The plan was to explore the larger part of Acadia National park this morning, with a little later than planned start to the day the first thing we did was to pull into the visitors center. That should have been a sign of things to come, Mary wanted a different stamp for her book and I wanted to remeasure the height of the van because on the map one of the printed bridges was listed as 10’4”. I wanted to be sure we were under that. When we pulled into the parking lot it was almost completely full very few parking spots to be had and people everywhere. Mary didn’t even bother to try to get her book stamped, we made a quick measurement and hit the road. Crowded with no place to park, as cars were lined up for probably a mile at each of the popular spots. Then it was SO FOGGY that you couldn’t see the ocean most of the time. Within an hour we were out of the park and headed back towards Gorham NH. This is more or less the off season, I truly would hate to see what it’s like in the summertime.
I’v gotta say overall I was not overly impressed with Maine and won’t be making any plans to return anytime soon. Beyond the tourist trap towns, with mostly street parking none of the other communities had any kind of community parks or roadside parking, this is true even after you get away from the coast.
It was also hit and miss with any kind of signs, some signs were well in advance of a turn of pullout while others were at the entrance, and all were way to small to read without slowing way down.
Another slight aggravation is all the speed up and slow downs. We took 2 lane roads and the small towns are not far apart, like most of New England, so you start in town at 25mph you might get up to a stretch of 45 mph then you are slowing down again. Sometimes there are signs letting you know you going to be slowing down other times your doing 45 and here is a sign that the speed limit is now 25, if not 15 for a school zone.
Did I mention everything is EXPENSIVE!
The end of my rant
