A sightseeing road trip
Sunday September 25, 2022 a few miles from Franklin Maine
This is where we spent the night, last night, it’s another Harvest Host. I’ll admit it’s not the levelest place we have ever stayed at. We could have got out the leveling blocks, but that means getting out in the COOL morning air and putting them up.
So today, was more or less a sightseeing road trip, the first stop was Bass Harbor lighthouse located in Bass Harbor ME. This one is also a private home so you could only take pictures from the outside. We did find a path to the rocks below but still couldn’t get a great picture of the lighthouse from down by the water. More Below
Then we stopped at a couple ocean front pull offs. The best one was Seawall Picnic area inside Acadia National Park. See the pictures at the bottom.
We followed that up with a stop to check out Carroll Homestead also in Acadia National Park. Four generations of Carroll’s lived on this coastal subsistence farm from 1825-1917. More Below of course.
The drive through Bar Harbor was way less than fun, it’s another tourist town with pedestrians EVERYWHERE! But it was Sunday with warmer than expected temperature.
From the Campground we looked into a whale watching tour, but sadly they were sold out for the rest of the month.
Just before we came back to Maine we lucked into two nights in Schoodic Woods Campground. Its in a different part of the park and is about a 40 minute drive to what most people consider Acacia NP. We’re in a site with electricity and again it’s a $12 uncharge, UGH.
We may not get to do much exploring on foot because some of the walks might be out due to parking. People are lined up along the road at many of the spots. That’s one reason we kept the Jeep for when we really plan to visit National Parks, they are so crowded that the Van is hard to find parking spots sometimes.
