Mount Washington Area
Dates August 26 to September 5th
We arrived earlier in the month than expected but with Labor Day in the mix and we didn’t know where we were going to stay we decided to get to the only federal campground (Dolly Copp) that has electricity at the sites. We wanted the electricity because we didn’t know how much driving we would be doing, driving charges the house battery. When we arrived they only had 2 first come sites open for the length of time we wanted to stay.
The good news, Being a federal campground we got the site for 1/2 price, $12.50 a night. The bad news if you want water and electric like we did, they charge a flat rate of $12 a night for W & E. Say what, UGH!!!!! I sure hope other federal sites don’t go this route!!!
Dolly Copp is the only Federal or state CG with electricity and water, all the others are dry camping and no dump station.
While it wasn’t raining when we pulled into the CG we drove through some extra dark clouds and heavy rain from time to time, this one town we had to drive through it was pouring rain with stoplight to stoplight traffic. To add insult to injury had we delayed our arrival by a day just to avoid the rain, guess what, it never rained on the day we stayed to avoid the rain. GRRRRRRRR!
You may remember me mentioning Mary’s electric fly swatter, well, she’s named it Mr Sparky. A couple of spots we stayed at have these little white bugs that are drawn to lights, many of them are small enough to get through the screen others think they are invited every time you open the screen door. Anyway, wave the flyswatter around and you hear snap, crackle, and pop, complete with brilliant sparks, many leaving smoking trails as they crash to the floor. Sometimes it’s more like popping popcorn, only it smells nothing like popcorn.
We’re staying near the New Hampshire town of Gorham, which by the way has the first frost date of somewhere between September 11 through the 20th.
With plans to stay in the area for several days, if not weeks, we didn’t do much exploring we plan to do most of that after the holiday and hopefully most people pull out.
Is fall in the air? I have noticed several leaves like these on the ground.
