Do you like trains?
Saturday, August 27, 2022 some where in the White Mountains in New Hampshire
Yup, I know I’m WAY behind – What can I say.
Least I forget, Mary got herself a new flyswatter, well it’s not really a fly swatter as the bug needs to be flying, it’a a battery powered bug zapper and you hit a flying bug with it and you are rewarded with a loud and satisfying ZAP and brilliant spark of light as bug is fried to a crisp in midair.
Note to self, don’t touch it when it’s aviated, I have not but Mary said she accidentally touched it once, unfortunately I didn’t get to witness this event so I can not confirm and she refused to do it again for me to watch.
Mary received a clean bill of health with the only catch being the Dr wants to see her every 6 months to make sure she’s not hatching any more kidney stones. That’s much better than having a stent changed all the time.
So anyway, the plan had been to take off immediately after the Dr visit, how ever I found out my sister, who lives down in Florida, was coming to Indian for a visit next week so we went to the Garden of the Gods area in So. Illinois for a week or so, came back visited with her and the rest of the crew and then hit the road that afternoon.
Garden of the Gods pics.
On the way back we stopped at Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial.
Leaving Indiana our first real stop was the home of President James A. Garfield, it’s in Mary’s Passport book of course.
He was the 20th president died from a bullet in the back not helped by dirty instruments and hands digging for the bullet. Elected 1881 and served 6 months before he was shot.
Then, a few days later we stopped at Steamtown, again it’s in Marys book. Getting there the GPS led us on an interesting route through the town of Scranton NY, which is also where, in the middle of town, Steamtown National Historic Site is located. It’s an old facility where trains, mostly steam powered were inspected and repaired.
