Blue Ridge Parkway
June 8
We left Shenandoah NP and after a quick stop for food and fuel we immediately got on the Blue Ridge Parkway NP. The first thing we noticed was the grass was freshly cut and you could tell it had been cut regularly.
More below just keep going until you find the end
June 9
Lower Otter Creek Overlook, you can’t really tell it from the pictures but there were several trees down in this area, looked like it must have been a heck of a windstorm along with a lot or rain to loosen up the ground.
The Blue Ridge Parkway is a National Park with not only many overlooks but historical attractions also.
Our next real stop was Mabry Mill, built in 1910 he had a sawmill, grist mill and a wood working shop all running off of the water wheel.
The next stop was Brinegar Cabin
The guy was nuts in my book, building his cabin in the worst spot possible just so he could vote in a certain county, because of this he built his cabin above the spring, if he had bought land and built his cabin some place else he could have built a cabin below the spring and had spring fed water directly into the cabin. But no, he opted to carry all the water up hill from the spring house and mere feet from the spring house is a steep drop off.
We also made a stop at Linville Falls
1 detour through parts of Roanoke VA yesterday and 2 detours today made for a longer than expected drive with a little aggravation and traffic in Roanoke. We exited the parkway and entered Smokey Mountains NP.
Finally, THE END – Don’t yo0u mean I FINALLY got around to writing something up?
