The NONESUCH Road
7/31/2018
Steps steps and more steps UGH.
Yesterday, we went down to Presque Isle Falls, on the Presque Isle River. That’s on the other side of the Porcupine Mountians. They call each set of falls by a different name even though most of them are only 50-100 yards from each other .
So anyway we walked around, probably didn’t walk much more than a mile BUT steps every where.
It was really nice, wooden steps and boardwalks to keep down on damage caused by hundreds and hundreds of people walking on trails.
About 1/2 way down the hill from the parking lot the trail splits, one going up stream the other down to the lake, that’s Lake Superior. The one going upstream was a flat boardwalk some times other times steps going up or down. First you would climb the equivalent of 2-3 stories and then back down, up and down, up and down. Maybe this is a good place to mention the trail was not a loop, when you get to the end, or before, you get to turn around and retrace your steps.
Eventually, we made our way down and across a very bouncy bridge to the lake, then it was back up the steps to the top, probably 8-10 stories or more, Sure felt the burn but neither of us had to stop on the way up.
More words below.
Today we started out with a walk to Summit Peak and observation tower, walking up the trail towards the summit, we felt the burn then we get near the top and it was all steps up and up and up……….
We almost took the loop trail that would have been 5 miles instead we turned around and went down all those steps, that wasn’t to bad but going down the hill on the trail you could feel some burn in a different set of muscles.
More words below.
After the summit hike we stopped to do the Union Mine trail, which takes you past some abandoned copper mines. The sign said it was a mile long we didn’t know if it was going to be a mile in and one mile out or a loop. It ended up being about a mile and 1/2 loop, according the the app thingy. Every so often they had plaques that described mining life and excerpts from diaries.
More words below.
Finally on the way home we stopped at Bonanza Falls, located next to the parking spot, not much of a river but I bet it’s really pretty with the water up, it had some very interesting rock falls for the water to run over.

Do you ever look at a swimming hole and say, “I GOTTA GO IN THERE!”?
Dry off in the woods with clothes packed and be on your way?
Some of those falls look outstanding. Glad I got your story up and running.
Unfortunately we never got in Lake MI to swim due to time constraints on our pedaling adventure.
Doug
No never felt like I “had” to get in any of them.
