Escaping the COLD
February 4 -15 2008 miles shake down cruise.
Beating a snow and ice storm on our return from Phoenix and getting the van, we arrived in Clarksville and paid for another site next to RUBY. For a few days we outfitted the van. In between the cold and an ice/snow event we didn’t get everything we wanted put in the van, we have a few things still stored in Mary’s Moms barn, like chairs and a few other items.
Anyway, after a few days we managed to get enough stuff in the van, it was time to escape the cold for a few days. We would have liked to travel down to FL to visit my sister but unfortunately they moved one of Mary’s Dr’s appointments by a week so we took off for someplace along the Atlantic coast and ended up in Charlestown S. C. The cold seemed to have followed us here while not as cold at So. Indiana it isn’t short sleeve whether and a cold rain has moved in.

On the drive from the frozen north, the first night we stayed in a Cracker Barrel parking lot, then the night of the 5th we stayed at a COE park about 30 minutes north of Charlestown SC. The park is along the Intercostal Waterway, while we were near the Atlantic Ocean we could not see it. After getting set up we managed to get a short walk in. We would have stayed longer but the park was booked solid for the rest of the week, so we drove in a cold misting ran to Charlestown to tour Fort Moultrie but it closed. With rain in the forecast and no camping spot reserved we decided to head back inland.
Later we booked 2 nights here in another COE park our spot looks out over Hartwell Lake. The only thing we did is to check out the Gorigeia Guide Stones. If your close they are probably worth checking out but they are not a destination item.
Here’s what is written on the stones, each side is in another language.
1. Maintain humanity under 500,000,000 in perpetual balance with nature.
2. Guide reproduction wisely — improving fitness and diversity.
3. Unite humanity with a living new language.
4. Rule passion — faith — tradition — and all things with tempered reason.
5. Protect people and nations with fair laws and just courts.
6. Let all nations rule internally resolving external disputes in a world court.
7. Avoid petty laws and useless officials.
8. Balance personal rights with social duties.
9. Prize truth — beauty — love — seeking harmony with the infinite.
10. Be not a cancer on the earth — Leave room for nature — Leave room for nature.

After that we bounced around westward until it was time to head back to the FROZEN NORTH so Mary could have some blood work and maker arrangements to have the stent replaced.
That’s it for now, not sure when we’ll be back on the road.
We spent 1 night at Smokmont CG in Smokey National Park where we see a heard of elk.
