Rain rain & more rain
Monday, October 4, 2021, elevation 530
The drive today was around 207 miles and took us from Georgia back into Florida for a westward drive of around 45 miles then north into Alabama later east back into Georgia. About the last 1-2 hours of the drive were in the rain, sometimes a heavy downpour most of the time just a light sprinkle, that’s what we had as we were setting up then came a heavier rain that lasted all night. The first thunder was as we were done setting up and headed in.
We’re in another COE park with a large site, with some trial and error we managed to get mostly level. The site had a path down to West Point Lake which again sits along the Alabama Georgia border.
West Point Lake is around 25,864 acres with an average depth of 23 feet and is 85 feet at it’s deepest. It looks like a good fishing lake with all kinda of coves.
Before the rain we passed a few fields of cotton, and we’re now in much more hilly area always slightly gaining elevation as we migrate back to Indiana.
Tuesday, October, 4, 2021, rain and storms are in the forecast for the rest of today. Looking at the radar we are in a narrow band of rain that will just sit on top of us.
We went for a drive in a misting rain, after a while the mist gave way to cloudy skies that looked like they might burst open at any time. We ended up driving around the lake, it has many access points with boat ramps. We also saw several homes near the water with private boat docks.
Before heading back home we went Kroger-ing, obviously we have not entered civilization yet because they didn’t have Mike Sells Hot Chips or Big Red.

Wednesday, October 6, 2021, elevation 1805, wow what a driving climb that was including 2 sharp switchback corners.
First off, while it has been this way for the past few days, I gotta say it was especially refreshing to step outside and not start sweating, wow that was so nice this morning. Of course I thought I might be getting a shower while we were hooking up, but it held off until we were on the road for the 188 mile drive. A lot of which was in the rain. I try to avoid driving in the rain but with needing to make some miles and the need for making reservations in advance one can’t always pick and choose.
We’re in Cloudland Canyon State Park GA which is located in the northwest corner of the state. Lets just say the road up was a little steep. There are lots of short trails around but as of now they have a 90% chance of rain for tomorrow so I don’t think we will get much walking in.
Again todays drive was mostly through Alabama, that’s the way the way the woman that hides in the GPS wanted to go and I learned a long time ago to never argue with a woman.
I didn’t go back out once we got set up, about an hour before we arrived I developed another sinus headache, between all the rain and changing seasons, I’m not sure I’m going to survive. Anyway once I regained conciseness from my benydril induced coma I didn’t feel like venturing outside under the dripping wet trees
I mentioned the rain, I almost forgot we’re under a tornado watch until 11:00 tonight.
The End
