One mean cutting machine

We went to the Ontonagon Copper Festival today. It wasn’t much but they did have a timber cutting exhibition, Great Lakes Timber Show.

One was a chainsaw log cutting exhibition. The guy with the saw was one of the top in the nation.

Starting with his hands up in the air, he reached down grabbed the saw started it and cut through a 12 inch log. Well, I must have blinked because I missed most of it. I must say I was impressed with the speed at which the saw cut through the log, like a knife through extra soft butter. Oh yea, lets just say the saw was not stock:)

Today they had a car show at the Copper Festival, like the festive it’s self it, was on the smaller side.

The festival is close so was worth going to again and I wanted to catch the cutting exhibition again, hoping to get some better pictures.

Oh yea, come to find out this is not his fastest saw, I guess it’s been retired from competition, it’s now #3 in his saw line.

Also, yesterday, for the ax cutting part of the demonstration, the guy stood on a log and cut it two by chopping between his feet. I was concerned because he just had on some kind of slippers for shoes. Today I found out that he had on chainmail socks, that the ax being literly sharp enough to shave with would just cut though leather boots even it they are steel toed the ax would slide off and cut deeply if not all the way through foot or leg.

Having seen this show I will definitely be keeping my eye out for another chainsaw cutting exhibition.
